Mega Man Legends 3 is No More

Capcom giveth, and they taketh away. Despite the best efforts to crowd-source a sequel to the Mega Man Legends franchise, Capcom has announced that they have scrapped the 3DS outing. In turn, this announcement also cancels the psuedo-prequel game Mega Man Legends 3DS Prototype that would have acted similarly to Dead Rising’s Case Zero DLC for the main game.

No reason in particular was given except for not meeting the required “criteria” that various departments within Capcom placed on the game. However, in the FAQ section of the release, they deny that the departure of game designer and Mega Man co-designer Keiji Inafune is related to the cancellation of this project.

Despite the shuttering of both this game and Mega Man Universe in the same year, the company reiterates that “Mega Man is still an important franchise within Capcom’s portfolio”and that they “will continue to pursue opportunities to create new titles in the series.”

It was a unique experiment in making a game, but it seemed as though the threat of it being squashed followed it from the beginning. Oh well, at least there’s probably Mega Man 11 to look forward to.
