EB Expo – Day 1 Highlights – Part 1

EB Expo

The stage in the EB Expo Arena

Well, day one of the Electronics Boutique Games Expo has concluded, with all the fanfare of a dying mule.

In all seriousness, the first day of the EB Expo has been all I had hoped, and more, of all the exhibits that were on show, almost all of them were filled to the brim with the latest games and a surplus of controllers. The big names were there, EA, Activision, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, but there were also some of the smaller but nonetheless important games companies, such as Namco Bandai, THQ, 2k, even Konami had a small stand in there.

The day opened with a short presentation with the Managing Director of EB Games Australia, Steven Wilson, giving a short speech regarding the decision to open the expo to the public, with it previously only being available to the Managers and select employees of the company. This was followed by a video presentation showing off some of the featured games at the expo, such as Need for Speed: The Run, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, Mass Effect 3, Battlefield 3, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Batman Arkham City and Saint’s Row The Third. Alongside some of the smaller titles including Super Mario 3DS, Mario Kart 7, Kirby’s Adventure in Dreamland, Rayman Origins, and the various dance games.

Shortly after it was finished, there was a short demonstration of Just Dance 3 for the Microsoft Xbox360 Kinect, showcasing the true difficulty of the game, in that a qualified troupe of dancers, could not even perfect score the song, which was by the Black Eyed Peas, failing it and bringing a round of applause from the audience, nice.

And Finally there was motocross.

The less said about this the better, it was lacklustre at best, especially since it only lasted ten minutes, and the biggest highlight was when one of the riders mistimed his landing and drove too far and crashed into one of the exit doors, taking off the side of it, and unfortunately I didn’t have my camera ready at the time so I have no proof.

All that was just the opening ceremony, there was a tonne more stuff that happened that day, but I think I’ll drip feed it to you over the next couple of days, as I’m tired, and I have another full day of playing games ahead of me, oh the horror…

About SolidBaker

Edward is the Australian Asshole of the group, you'll often find him bitching about censorship or the fact that he gets shafted on most video game releases. Solid has a penchant to rattle on about little niggling parts of games that he gets angry with and tends to get angry with them often. He owns most of the current systems and a lot of the older systems, and has a general distaste of most of the current generation of games, but that doesn't mean he can't enjoy them all the same.
