Marvel vs. Capcom 3: It’s Finally Coming True, Believers!

After nearly a decade of demand from rabid fans, the near death of the fighting genre as a whole and the rebirth of the Street Fighter franchise Capcom has finally decided to announce the long awaited sequel to Marvel vs. Capcom 2 at their Captivate event in Hawaii.

The most obvious thing in the above trailer is that the game will be making the move to 3D with a distinct comic book style for every character, and that along with some old favorites the boulder punching hero Chris Redfield will be making his first Vs. series appearance in MvC3. Most of the teaser is cinematic much like Street Fighter 4’s reveal but near the end a clearly in-engine Ryu let’s loose a Shinku Hadouken and gives off some Tatsunoko vs Capcom vibes.

Much of the details such as exactly how the fighting system will work and how many characters will be duking it out this time are under wraps. What we do know is that it will be coming as a disc based release in Spring 2011 for PS3 and 360, it will use 3D characters with a 2D fighting system much like Street Fighter 4, the producer of TvC Ryota Niitsuma will be heading the project,  and that it will be using the same engine as Lost Planet 2 and Resident Evil 5.

It would seem that fighting games are back in full swing and more entries in the Vs. series will be coming indefinitely. This could be the best news that any fighting fan such as myself could have dreamed for.
